Gaming Cafe owner reports Ryzen 7 9800X3D failure every few weeks
Internet Cafe owner reports 15 Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU failures since March 2025
A Redditor who claims to run an Internet/Gaming Cafe has reported a high failure rate for AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs. Out of 150 CPUs purchased in March 2025, 15 have already failed. That’s a CPU failure every few weeks.
The cafe owner claims to have used these CPUs with an ASUS B650M-AYW WIFI motherboard with DDR5-5600 memory and 850W Gold-rated PSUs from Huntkey. Currently, the cause of these reported CPU failures is unknown. However, many Redditors are claiming that the cafe owner’s “low-quality” PSUs. Additionally, some have speculated that the cafe’s power supply could be providing unstable power. That said, there is no evidence that power delivery is the cause of these CPU failures.
Below is what RealisticLoad3327 had to say about his CPUs on Reddit.
I purchased 150 Ryzen 9 9800X3D CPUs in March of this year. I’m using them in an internet cafe, and I’ve never had such a terrible experience. One CPU fails every one or two weeks. I don’t know whether to blame the ASUS motherboard or AMD. The motherboard is a B650M-AYW WiFi; it’s not a top-of-the-line board, but it shouldn’t be causing CPUs to burn out. The power supply is an 850W gold-rated unit, which is definitely not the problem. Although they are covered by a three-year warranty, what happens after three years?
I’ve been using them conservatively; I haven’t even enabled PBO, and the memory is only running at 5600MHz, let alone overclocking. A 10% failure rate seems a bit excessive.

The Cafe owner has claimed that they have updated to ASUS’ September BIOS for their B650M-AYW WIFI motherboards (version 3283). Sadly, the cafe owner has not reported whether this BIOS version has decreased his CPU failure rate.
Sadly, the cafe owner in question has not provided any images of his setups, which lends little legitimacy to their claims. All that was provided was a screenshot of ZenTimings to showcase their system settings. As such, the claims of this internet cafe owner should be taken with a pinch of salt.
