X3D Disappointment – AMD’s Ryzen 5 7600X3D CPU is Microcenter Exclusive

AMD’s inexpensive gaming champion won’t be available outside of the US

Ever since rumours of the processor emerged, AMD’s Ryzen 5 7600X3D has been a highly anticipated processor. It was set to be AMD’s new budget gaming champion. The first 6-core X3D processor on AMD’s AM5 motherboard platform. A CPU that brought 3D V-Cache to the gaming masses at an affordable price. Now we know the truth… The Ryzen 5 7600X3D will have heavily restricted availability, and won’t be available outside of the USA.

Specifically, AMD’s new X3D CPU has been confirmed to be a Microcenter exclusive processor. The chip will only be available in 28 Microcenter retail locations in the US, both as a standalone CPU and as part of a motherboard/RAM bundle. Availability will be limited, and Microcenter’s stocks of these CPUs are not expected to last for long.

As part of a 3-in-1 motherboard/RAM/CPU bundle, buyers can save $182 over buying these parts separately. This bundle represents tremendous value to PC builders who are focusing on gaming value.

We are excited to once again partner with AMD to bring cutting-edge processor technology to our customers.

The Ryzen 5 7600X3D represents a significant step forward in making high-performance, cache-rich processors more accessible to a wider range of PC enthusiasts.

The Ryzen 5 7600X3D is disappointing, but not because if its performance

AMD’s X3D CPUs all feature enlarged L3 caches. This larger cache allows users to keep more data on-chip, greatly accelerating some workloads. Gaming workloads benefit greatly from this change. This makes AMD’s X3D CPUs highly sought after by gamers. Despite obvious demand, AMD’s X3D technology has not become widely available as part of Ryzen 5 class products. Clearly, AMD wants their X3D tech to remain a selling point for their more premium processors. Regardless, AMD has made it clear with Ryzen 5 X3D CPUs can exist thanks to these Microcenter exclusive CPU releases.

Overall, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D is a disappointment. Its lack of availability gives it little chance to impact the overall CPU market. Beyond that, it it also proves that AMD can, and won’t, release better budget-oriented gaming CPUs for the mass market.
