BMW celebrates Need for Speed’s 30th anniversary by making a “Most Wanted” style M3 GTR
The Need for Speed series is now 30 years old, and BMW Motorsport is celebrating by recreating one of its most iconic vehicles. Yes, BMW has made a real-world version of the cover car of Need for Speed Most Wanted, the BMW M3 GTR.

Most Wanted’s iconic M3 GTR is probably one of the most memorable things about the game. The game’s cover art was etched into the minds of gamers everywhere. In-game, the car was driven by “Razer”, the game’s primary antagonist. One perk for beating him is that you get to drive this iconic vehicle afterwards.
And among the many titles that have been released in the three decades of the series, most gamers will remember Need for Speed: Most Wanted from 2005. One of the reasons is a very special BMW M model driven in the game by the main antagonist, Clarence Callahan, aka “Razor”: a BMW M3 GTR from 2001. Its striking silver-blue design, brute sound, enormous power and role in the game’s plot have left a lasting impression on many gamers. To this day, the collective memory known as the Internet has not forgotten this M3 â it has become part of gaming and pop culture. That is reason enough for M GmbH to create a worthy homage to this model, one made of carbon and aluminium and bursting with power beneath its bonnet.
(This iconic vehicle looks even better in real life!)
To this day, Most Wanted is remembered as one of the best games in the Need for Speed series. Now, the game’s BMW M3 is something that exists in the real-world, complete with some powerful upgrades.
Below is a list of “5 POWERFUL FACTS” that BMW has released for this vehicle.
- Engine: P60B40 V8 Engine

- Weight: 1,100 kg

BMW’s M3 GTR returned to the Need for Speed series last week
Last month, the BM3 M3 GTR returned to the Need for Speed series as part of Need for Speed: Unbound’s Volume 9 “Lockdown” update. The update was released last week on November 27th.
Need for Speed Most Wanted remains a much-loved entry in the series. The game has a vibrant modding scene, with gamers adding graphical updates and other changes to make it look better on modern PCs. We even reported on an RTX Remix mod for the game earlier this year, which overhauled the game with full ray-traced visuals.
BMW’s real-world “Most Wanted” M3 GTR is now on show at BMW Welt, the BMW museum in Munich. If you want to see this part of gaming history for yourself, now is your chance.
