Ikea recalls their popular ASKSTORM 40W USB charger over safety concerns

IKEA urges all 40W ASKSTORM charger users to stop using it immediately – Refunds offered

IKEA has officially issued a recall for one of their most popular USB chargers, the ASKSTORM 40W, over concerns of cable damage after prolonged use. If users wrap the ASKSTORM’s power cable around the unit (as is typical when travelling with this charger) there is risk of damaging the cable. IKEA has stated that this damage may lead to “thermal burns and electric shock”.

As of now, IKEA has removed the ASKSTORM from sale and have recommended that all owners of the charger cease using the device. The company are also offering full refunds to purchasers.

I learned of this recall from a recent email from IKEA. I own one of these chargers, and typically use it to fast-charge my phone or to charge my Steam Deck. Now that it has been recalled, I will need to move to a new charger. I will also need to get my refund from IKEA. Returns are possible in-store and customers can also call IKEA customer services using the number below.

Right now, IKEA has no replacement for their 40W ASKSTORM charger. The company’s 23W ASKSTORM charger remains available. It uses a completely different design to its 40W counterpart, and doesn’t have a power cable that can be damaged.
