Move over Call of Duty – A “Battlefield” movie is reportedly in the works

Big names are reportedly working on a movie based on the “Battlefield” franchise

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Christopher McQuarrie and Michael B. Jordan are meeting with Hollywood studios and streaming giants to make a movie based on EA’s “Battlefield” series. Battlefield 6 was the US’ best-selling game of 2026, outpacing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

Call of Duty is already getting a film adaptation. Last week, it was announced that the film would be released in cinemas on June 30th 2028. Now, it looks like the game’s primary rival is also getting adapted for the big screen.

Battlefield VS Call of Duty comes to the Cinema

Christopher McQuarrie, who is known for directing and writing the four newest Mission Impossible movies, is reportedly set to write, direct, and produce the movie. Michael B. Jordan is also reportedly attached to the movie as a producer, and possibly as a star. EA will also be taking on a producer role.

While EA is reportedly meeting with streaming companies, a theatrical release is being prioritised. Bidding is likely to start soon for the movie, and it won’t be cheap. Battlefield is already an established property within the video game world. With Battlefield outselling Call of Duty last year, the rights alone will cost a fortune.

Battlefield games have been set in World War 1, World War 2, the Cold War, the Modern Era, and in the future. As such, a Battlefield game could be set almost anywhere. In a sense, any war movie could be a Battlefield movie, much like now any war movie could, at least theoretically, be a Call of Duty movie. That said, the name is well recognised and may get gamers into cinema seats. Why else would moviemakers pay top dollar for what’s otherwise a generic war setting?
