Xbox to host “Game Dev Update” event with “Project Helix” introduction

Microsoft’s Spring 2026 Xbox Game Dev update includes an “Introduction to Project Helix”

Microsoft is hosting a new “Game Dev Update” event on May 7th, with Xbox calling this event their “first episode”, suggesting that there are more events to come.

This developer-focused event will give developers a glimpse at the future of Xbox. This includes a look at new developer tools, changes to DirectX, and highlights from GDC 2026. It will also include changes to the Xbox Marketplace. Basically, this event will help game developers prepare for the future and better leverage their newest systems.

Part of the event will be an “Introduction to Project Helix”, Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console. This event will be hosted by Chris Charla and Jason Ronald. They will be giving developers a “closer look at Project Helix” and what it means for the future of Xbox.

Introduction of Project Helix

Presented by: Chris Charla (GM, Portfolio & Programs) & Jason Ronald (VP, Next Generation)

Chris and Jason will walk through the details shared at GDC, offering a closer look at Project Helix and what it represents for the future of Xbox.

What does Project Helix mean for developers? It’s powered by a custom AMD-based SoC and co-designed for the next-generation of DirectX, as part of our ongoing partnership to shape the future of rendering and simulation. Project Helix will create new opportunities for you to optimize build workflows, improve performance, and iterate more efficiently. Xbox is building for what’s next and we’re inviting you to join us on that journey.

Microsoft has confirmed that Project Helix will use a “custom AMD-based SoC”. Furthermore, the system was co-designed with AMD for the “next-generation of DirectX”. AMD has previously confirmed that FSR Diamond, AMD’s next-generation FSR feature set, is “natively optimised” for Project Helix.

For the most part, this event is a recap of what Microsoft unveiled at GDC 2026. That said, it is possible that Microsoft will share some additional details about their next-generation plans.
