Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s “Gameplay trailer” contained surprisingly little gameplay

I don’t know about you, but when I’m told to expect gameplay for a new game, I expect to see a game being played. Is that too much to ask for? On Microsoft’s latest Inside Xbox Stream, Ubisoft released their first “gameplay trailer” for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, showcasing almost nothing but cinematic footage for the game.

Yes, we saw some longboats, Stonehenge and a lot of Viking imagery, but what did we see very little of? Gameplay. This is a nitpick, but developers really need to be clearer when it comes to setting expectations, as this trailer is primarily made of in-engine footage, not gameplay. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one that expected a short gameplay demo or a trailer which showcased more gameplay.

Within the trailer below we get to see a lot of Saxon England, Eivor’s crow companion, a siege battle and a selection of weapons which will be available within the game. Expect a lot of dual-wielded weapons, throwing axes and more within Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as well as the return of the hidden blade.

Ubisoft has also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla will be a smart delivery title for Xbox Series X. This means that the Xbox One version of the game will allow Xbox users to access the Xbox Series X version when they upgrade their console. That’s great news for those who plan to upgrade their console in the future.

Thankfully, Ubisoft supplemented their “gameplay trailer” with a short interview with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Creative Director, Ashraf Ismail, who discussed the game in more detail.
