Bungie releases in-engine Marathon teaser

Expect to see more of Bungie’s Marathon on April 12th

Bungie have just released a new in-engine teaser for Marathon, the company’s new extraction shooter for PC and consoles. The company has confirmed that the game will have a “gameplay reveal showcase” on April 12th at 10 am PT (6 PM BST).

Based on the teaser below, Bungie is sticking with the bold aesthetic of its initial teaser. The teaser has bright, saturated colours, giving the game a fascinating look and feel. Visually, Marathon looks good but doesn’t appear to be focused on delivering “cutting-edge” graphics. Let’s be honest, this is a good thing for an online shooter, as high and stable framerates are a must for this kind of game.

Below is what Bungie has to say about Marathon on their website.

A massive ghost ship hangs in low orbit over a lost colony on Tau Ceti IV. The 30,000 souls who call this place home have disappeared without a trace. Strange signals hint at mysterious artifacts, long-dormant AI, and troves of untold riches. You are a Runner, venturing into the unknown in a fight for fame… and infamy. Who among you will write their names across the stars?

While this new game is called Marathon, it isn’t going to be a single-player FPS like its predecessors. While it appears to be based in the same universe, this game will be entirely different to its predecessors.

Bungie’s original Marathon games are currently available on PC for free through Steam. These games have been made playable on modern PCs using the Aleph One engine. Note that this engine can run these classic PC/Mac games at 60+ FPS on Windows 10+ and macOS. Additionally, widescreen support is also available. Furthermore, the game features positional audio.

You can join the discussion on Marathon’s upcoming gameplay showcase on the OC3D Forums.
