Concord launch is a massive PC failure for PlayStation

After 8 years of development, Sony’s Concord failed to reach 700 concurrent players on Steam

Last week saw the release of Sony’s multiplayer shooter Concord on PC and PlayStation 5. To say the least, the launch has been a disaster for Sony. On Steam, the game has failed to reach 700 concurrent players on Steam, and the game’s playerbase has only decreased since launch.

Sony started the development of Concord eight years ago, shortly after the release of Blizzard’s Overwatch. In a sense, it is a trend-following Hero shooter that has arrived to late to be of any interest. The game was unable to garner any hype ahead of launch, any not many gamers are willing to pay £34.99 for the game.

This failure from Sony comes in stark contrast to the success of Helldivers 2, which quickly achieved a player counts of over 400,000 after launch. While the game’s player count as decreased since then, it remains much more popular than Concord.

While the game hasn’t been successful on PC, Concord has garnered “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam. That said, it is hard to see the game’s existing players sticking with the game long enough for Concord to make a comeback.

Currently the “Hero Shooter” genre has strong free-to-play offerings in the form of Overwatch 2 and Valorant. Marvel Rivals should add more competition to the mix when it launches. Sadly, Concord was unable to grab the attention of gamers and pull them away from existing titles. Will this change in the future, probably not. This is a highly contested area of the gaming market, and it will be almost impossible for this new shooter to make a comeback given its reputation as a “failed” release.
