EA releases Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered Comparison Screenshots
Today, EA has released comparison screenshots for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and its newly Remastered counterpart, revealing the addition of new destructible assets, updated models for buildings, alterations to the game’s lighting system and a higher resolution user interface.Â
On Switch, gamers will enjoy higher-resolution models, more objects/props, longer draw distances, higher resolution shadows and improved videos. On PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the game will also feature a higher resolution UI, higher resolution reflections/textures, more particle effects and improved AA/SSAO.Â
On Switch, PS4 and Xbox One (and Xbox One S), Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered will run at 30FPS, with PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and PC offering support for 60 FPS playback. On Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro, gamers can choose between a 4K 30 FPS more and a 1080p 60 FPS mode. PC is the only platform which can play Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit at 4K 60 FPS. PS4, Xbox One and Switch (Docked) target 1080p 30 FPS. The Switch targets 720p in handheld mode.Â
In the screenshot below, the addition of new destructible assets should be noted, as should the addition of easier to read number plates.Â

EA’s next screenshot showcases Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered’s improved signage, and the addition of more foliage and other details to the game. This remaster is more than a single HD re-release of the original.Â
Next up, we can see how Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2’s nighttime lighting has been altered. The Remaster alters the game’s lighting to showcase more detail, making the game less dark to improve visibility. The game’s buildings have also been altered, changing the look of the game’s nighttime cityscapes.Â
Lastly, we can see how shadows are drawn at a distance and how many of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit’s buildings have been changed to add additional detail to the game world. Many buildings are now much more colourful and realistic. While these changes do no make Hot Pursuit look like a modern Need for Speed release, it helps make Hot Pursuit feel less dated overall.Â
On PC, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is designed to run on Windows 10 PCs using the DirectX 11 API. By today’s standards, the game’s system requirements are very low, which should come as great news for those who want to run the game on older systems.Â
