Godfall isn’t an Unreal Engine 5 game

Earlier today, PC Gamer incorrectly called Gearbox’s Godfall an Unreal Engine 5 title, implying that the game was being built using Epic Games’ next-generation engine.

To be clear, Godfall is not an Unreal Engine 5 title, and PC gamer has corrected this falsehood with a recent correction Tweet. Even so, PC Gamer did not correct their claims during the PC Gaming Show, which means that this false information has already spread to other news sources. This short article is designed to help counter these false reports.

Today, Gearbox released a PC gameplay trailer for Godfall, a game which will release on PS5 and the Epic Games Store later this year. With this trailer, Gearbox has also confirmed that they have partnered with AMD to optimise Godfall for PC, with the trailer below featuring an AMD Radeon logo. Strangely, AMD’s new Radeon logo now uses Ryzen-style font (thanks @Casmoden for spotting this).

Below is what Gearbox has to say about their latest Godfall trailer.

Take your first look at in-development PC gameplay of Godfall and the world of Aperion—a world on the precipice of ruin. You are the last of the Valorian knights, god-like warriors able to equip Valorplates, legendary armor sets that transform wielders into unstoppable masters of melee combat.

Tear through foes as you climb through each of the elemental realms and challenge the mad god, Macros who awaits you at the top. Ascend in Godfall, the first-of-its-kind, looter-slasher, melee action-RPG.
