GOG really wants to bring Silent Hill 2 (Classic) back to PC, and you can help

Are GOG teasing Silent Hill 2 Classic’s return to PC

If there’s one thing that GOG is good at, it’s bringing classic PC games back to the platform. GOG is famed for making classic PC games available digitally, complete with full compatibility with modern OS’, improved rendering, and support for modern control options. Now, GOG could be teasing the return of Silent Hill 2’s original PC release. At a minimum, they are trying to get the support needed to build new ports.

In recent years, GOG has re-released the original Resident Evil Trilogy and Dino Crisis games on PC. GOG is skilled at bringing back these classic PC games. That said, it is hard to convince game publishers to allow GOG to remaster their old PC releases. That’s why GOG allows fans of classic games to vote for games on their “GOG Dreamlist”. This list and its supporters help GOG convince publishers to let them bring back their PC classics.

This isn’t the first time that GOG has shown interest in bringing Silent Hill 2 back to PC

GOG first highlighted its desire to bring back Silent Hill 2’s original PC version when its remake first arrived on GOG. This was over a year ago, and since then GOG has continued posting about Silent Hill 2. Many fans hope that these posts are teasers for a planned GOG re-release. That said, GOG has confirmed nothing officially.

Silent Hill 2’s original PC version is very expensive on PC

Silent Hill 2’s original PC version is not available digitally. That means that PC gamers need to find an original disc-based PC copy of the game to play it. To make this PC version compatible with modern PCs, gamers should install the Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition mod. This mod improves the game’s compatibility with modern versions of Windows and enhances its visuals.

An official GOG re-release for Silent Hill 2 would require no mods to work on modern PCs. It would also give PC gamers an option to purchase the game outside of the second hand market. Furthermore, it would provide Konami with a new revenue stream and preserve its classic games.

If you want to see the original Silent Hill games come to PC, you need to vote for the game on GOG’s Dreamlist. Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3 are on GOG’s Dreamlist. With enough support, GOG may be able to convince Konami to allow PC re-releases.

Silent Hill 2 (Remake), Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill 4: The Room (Original), are all currently available on GOG.
