Heavenly Sword can now be played at 4K 60 FPS through PC emulation

Over the past few years, the PlayStation 3’s RPCS3 emulator has seen significant progress, advancing in both performance and stability while also allowing gamers to surpass the limitations of Sony’s original PS3 hardware.

Now, PlayStation 3 exclusives can be played at higher resolution/framerates than their original counterparts, allowing games like Heavenly Sword to break past its 30FPS framerate cap to become playable at 4K 60 FPS. This allows heavenly Sword to both run smoother and look better on PC.

To run Heavenly Sword at 60 FPS, PC gamers need to create a custom emulator configuration for the game an use a blank setting of 120Hz. This is detailed further on the RPCS3 YouTube video below for Heavenly Sword 60 FPS gameplay.

Recent changes tot he RPCS3 emulator have solved several issues with Heavenly Sword’s emulation, making the game run smoother and without the game’s infamous “Our of video memory” crash. PC players can avoid Heavenly Sword’s SIXAXIS controls by disabling the feature within the game’s settings or by using a DualShock 3 or Dualshock 4 controller suing Windows drivers, as these controllers are natively supported on the RPCS3 emulator.

At this late stage, it is unlikely that Heavenly Sword will ever be remastered for modern platforms, making higher resolution/refresh rate PC emulation one of the best ways to experience Heavenly Sword today.

The video below was recorded on a Ryzen 9 3950X processor, though it is worth noting that Ryzen 7 3700X or 3800X processors will offer players similar, or better, PC performance.
