InXile’s next-generation RPG will be made using Unreal Engine 5

Once InXile moves on from Wasteland 3, the studio will be working on an RPG for next-generation gaming platforms, such as the Xbox Series X and PC. In a recent Tweet, Studio Head Brian Fargo confirmed that this next-gen release would utilise Unreal Engine 5, making it one of the first AAA games to be confirmed for that engine.

Unreal Engine 5 is due to release in preview in early 2021, with a planned final release later that year. Being an Xbox Games Studio, InXile could obtain early access to the engine, a factor which could allow InXile to start using the engine earlier, than other 3rd party developers.

Wasteland 3 is due to release on August 28th, after which the studio will be dedicating more if its efforts to future game releases. With Microsoft’s backing, InXile will not be as financially constrained as they were before, a factor which should be very exciting for hardcore RPG fans.

InXile has not confirmed that its next-generation RPG will be limited exclusively to next-generation hardware platforms, which means that the game could be released on both Xbox One and Xbox One X.
