Crucial maxes out PCIe 4.0 with their new T500 SSD

Crucial pushes the limits of PCIe 4.0 with their new T500 SSD

Micron have launched a new SSD that pushed the limits of the PCIe 4.0 interface, using the company’s new 232-layer 3D NAND to push the limits of the Gen4 SSD performance. This new SSD is the Crucial T500, an affordable alternative to the company’s T700 PCIe 5.0 SSD.

With sequential read and write speeds up to 7,400 MB/s and 7,000 MB/s, Crucial’s new T500 SSD promised to be one of the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSDs available. At launch, the drive is available in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB forms. The drive’s 1TB and 2TB models will be available with or without a pre-installed heatsink. A 4TB model is also due to launch in early 2024.

Crucial’s T500 heatsink models are designed for devices like Sony’s PlayStation 5. The T500’s heatsinkless versions are designed for desktop PCs, laptops, and workstation devices.

Crucial has claimed that their new T500 SSD can load games up to 16% faster than other PCIe 4.0 SSDs. For this test, Crucial used Valorant, Call of Duty, and Forspoken’s benchmark for testing. Sadly, Micron did not reveal which PCIe 4.0 SSDs they were comparing their T500 with.
