ASUS TUF H3 Headset Review

The packaging is very familiar if you’ve read one of our reviews of the other products in the TUF range, with a clear product image flanked by the recognisable font and logos. Despite supporting anything with a 3.5mm jack, only the PS4 gets top billing.
Within the box we find the headset itself with its 1.8m 3.5mm cord, a quick start guide “plug in, listen”, and a splitter extension cable than can give you an extra six foot of cable should you require it.
The design of the TUF H3 follows a lot of the headsets we’ve seen recently with a steel band ending with U shaped connection to the ear pieces. It is an idea we can first recall seeing on the HyperX Cloud headset and it beautifully combines lightness with rigidity whilst eliminating the consistent weak spot of mid-priced headsets, the hinges.
For those of you with ears on your jawline, or who prefer to game whilst wearing a constables helmet, there is plenty of height adjustment built in to the TUF H3.Â
Here you have a closer look at how the hinges connect and adjust to ensure that you get a comfortable fit. You can also see the shiny TUF logo against the brushed finish of the sides.
Taking photographs of the plushness of the ear pads – here covered with an all-protein vegan-friendly leather – always involves a little bit of manipulation and with the TUF H3 it also shows off exactly how flexible that steel band is. Whilst you’ll never run the headset like this for long periods it is nice to know that if it does get bashed around a little bit for whatever reason it can take the abuse and return to ‘true’ without issue.
The controls are very simple with a button to mute the microphone sitting alongside a volume wheel. You can also see how thick the padding is on the ears for maximum comfort.
Modern hardware is all about branding, letting people looking/watching know exactly where your allegience lays, and the TUF is no exception with its clear, but not overly obtrusive, mark.
Lastly the microphone is a very flexible, Discord certified, uni-direction number with 50Hz-10kHz response. You know, if you alternately breathe sulfur hexafluoride and helium but still want to remain audible.
