With so many possible connection options and configurations available on the Rapture GT-AXE16000, we’re surprised how clear the packaging for it is. The back has a clear diagram of some of the setups you can use, but we don’t think too many people are going to make this an impulse purchase, so simplicity is the key.
Cue the dead spider. The Rapture GT-AXE16000 has eight fixed antenna for the best possible WiFi coverage, and the central section is an extremely reflective ASUS ROG logo, available in all the lighting options we’ve come to expect from the Republic of Gamers brand.
Boasting a 2GHz quad-core CPU beating at its heart, it’s not a surprise to see a lot of ventilation built in to the case. Amazing to think this is, not actually but specification-wise, an Intel Q6600 for a router. We’ve come a long way, baby.
Of course a Router is only as good as its connection options, and the flagship Rapture GT-AXE16000 boasts everything you could want. Starting off with the power connector and some USB ports.
The heart of the Rapture GT-AXE16000 is found here. From left to right we start with a difficult to accidentally hit reset button, vital given how many configuration options are available that you don’t accidentally wipe it all. Then comes four LAN ports, a 2.5/10E WAN, handily in blue to ensure you don’t accidentally plug in here. Lastly on the right we find two 10GE ports, the kind of bandwidth you’d need a very serious amount of hardware to fully utilise. You won’t be left wanting for throughput.
If the lighting is annoying you can turn it off with a single button press, and if you’ve grown weary of entering the handy 16 digit password every time you want to connect a new device then the WPS – WiFi Protected Setup – button makes pairing new hardware a breeze.
Lastly some handy lights help you make sure that you’re getting the maximum speed from the Rapture GT-AXE16000, with logos for 6 GHz, both 5 GHz and the more standard 2.5 GHz WiFi types.
