Logitech z623 2.1 Speaker Review

Logitech z623 2.1 Speaker Review

The days when your computer speakers were a couple of extremely tinny, usually beige, definitely cheap and nasty offerings are long behind us. There was a period when surround seemed to be the dominant way the market was heading, but I think even the most dedicated gamer will understand that cabling a 7.1 setup in a manner that didn’t look like an explosion in a spaghetti factory was too difficult.

Lately the designs have all been aimed squarely at producing high fidelity 2.1 audio, rather than just adding more speakers. It’s a lot easier to put a subwoofer at your feet and a couple of satellites on your desk and so it’s a direction we are all in favour of here at OC3D.

One such speaker set arrived in our offices from the fine folks at Logitech. The z623 2.1 THX certified speakers. We can’t see the letters THX without hearing Grandpa Simpson shouting “turn it up”.

As with any set of speakers it’s all about the looks and the audio, so let’s get down to brass tacks.

Technical Specifications

200W RMS?! That’s a serious amount of volume for what is a set of speakers on your desktop only a couple of feet in front of your ears. We remember when satellite speakers used PMPO to pump up the quoted output to triple digits. The Logi’s are doing it in RMS. With a frequency response of 35Hz-20kHz and full THX certification, the Logitech z623 promises to deliver bucketloads of loud and lovely audio.
