There is a stunning amount of tech built into the MSI Maestro 500. It does just about everything.
Firstly, and most importantly, is the connectivity options available to you. There is regular wireless for desktops and laptops as well as other compatible devices. Bluetooth 5.4 ensures that almost everything can connect, such is its ubiquity. If you are still left high and dry then the inclusion of a 3.5mm jack cable ensures that everything else works too. You could have an original Walkman and the Maestro 500 will work just fine.
Of course having it connected is only part of the story. With 40mm drivers supporting a 20Hz to 40kHz response range the audio reproduction is good. You’ll not be running into the streets grabbing strangers to make them hear this aural masterpiece, but neither are you left disappointed. Like the connectivity elements the Maestro 500 is designed to work in a multitude of scenarios and this means that the audio profile, by default, is fairly neutral. For the money, they’re more than good enough.
Environmental Noise Cancellation and Active Noise Cancellation are both offerings on this headset. ANC helps you focus on the sounds you wish to hear by countering noise in your area. Meanwhile the ENC works in conjunction with the beamforming microphone to ensure your speech is clear to anyone listening. Although there are much better performing noise cancelling headphones around, they all come at a pretty price. However the beamforming microphone and ENC element works very well, with our speech being clear and relatively free from outside noise. With the auto-mute microphone you’ll never be left spilling the tea unexpectedly.
Final Thoughts
Well-rounded is probably the best way to describe the MSI Maestro 500. In any particular area it isn’t outstanding. There are better music headphones, better gaming ones, ones with better comfort adjustment et al. However, there are none that connect to quite so many things, nor many that are this good for the money. Any wireless headset that costs under three figures these days is a star, and the MSI is well under that figure, meaning that any “good whilst neither being great nor poor” performance is more than acceptable for the price of ownership. It does everything well, which is perfect if you’re on a limited budget and need one pair that does it all, rather than does one thing brilliantly.
