QPAD QH25 7.1 USB Gaming Headset Review

Introduction

There is a quirk of the system that applies to nearly everything, and once you spot it you can’t unsee it. At the bottom end of any particular range of products you have the simple, bargain basement, does all you need and nothing more models, largely with their feature set pared to the bone to enable it to be sold at such a low price. As you gradually move along the bell curve more and more features are piled on in an attempt to justify the increased price whilst also giving you more for your money. Suddenly you find customisable elements, features that are there to pad out a specification list and make those with some money but not all the money feel justified in their decision. Lastly at the very upper end the opposite occurs and the price continues to climb but the features get stripped back again. Cheaper materials are replaced by more exotic ones and a minimalist aesthetic takes over. Let’s give you an example. Bottled water. At the low end it’s crinkly plastic and basic water, at the middle point it’s sparkling flavoured water in a sturdy plastic bottle, whilst at the premium end it’s basic water again, but now in a glass bottle with a carefully honed simplistic logo.

What’s that all to do with today’s headset, the QPAD QH25 7.1 virtual surround USB headset?

Well it falls at very much the lower end of the price spectrum, and a lot about it seems to fit everything that we would expect to find on a sub-£40 headset, but it also has a few touches that rise above some similarly priced competition. The million dollar question is, how good is the sound quality? Let’s look at it in detail first.
