be quiet Light Base 900 FX PC Case Review

Conclusion & Video

Conclusion – Is the Light Base 900 a good PC case?

So what do we think of the be quiet! Light Base 900 FX? We love it. The case is well-built, well-designed, and highly configurable. We have our gripes with some design elements. Regardless, we considered this case strong enough to be the test platform for our X870 motherboard reviews.

Our only real problem with this case is its PSU mounting location. When your PSU is installed, it covers the CPU cutout on this case’s motherboard tray. That means that users may need to remove their PSU or motherboard to change their CPU cooler. That is a hugely annoying design element. be quiet should have placed their PSU mount in a lower position. Yes, this would have placed the PSU at the top of the case in its inverted layout, but we feel that having access to this case’s CPU cutout is more important.

Why can’t we buy more quiet reserve-blade fans?

Another minor annoyance for us is that be quiet doesn’t currently ship reverse-blade fans as a standalone product. Currently, be quiet only ships reverse-blade fans with their Light Base series PC cases. If we wanted to add three intake fans to the bottom of this case, we would need to use standard be quiet fans, which would look out of place when reverse-blade fans would be optimal. Simply put, Be Quiet needs to release its reverse-blade fans as a standalone product. This isn’t necessarily a problem with the Light Base 900 itself, but it is a problem that its users may face.

With its three-in-one design, the Light Base 900 allows users to adjust the orientation of their case as their tastes change and their PC setup evolves. In its standard orientation, it already is an excellent PC case. With its other options, it is elevated above other “fish tank” (panoramic glass) style PC case designs. The loops of LED lights around its base add another neat design element, which can be adjusted to suit users’ tastes.

Near perfection

With excellent build quality, a solid design, and great out-of-the-box airflow, the Light Loop 900 FX was close to receiving OC3D’s White Gold award, OC3D’s highest honour. We have used this case extensively for our X870 motherboard reviews and rate it highly. Regardless, small issues like this case’s PSU mounting location annoy us enough to prevent it from achieving White Gold status.

Overall, the Light Loop 900 FX is an excellent option for PC builders. We have enjoyed using it and will continue to use it for X870/AM5 motherboard testing. It has strong airflow out of the box, which can be further enhanced with more fans. Water cooling fans will find plenty of room for activities, even if they use the largest of PC components.
