A new Hyper 212? – Cooler thermals and full memory clearance
Cooler Master’s Hyper 212 is legendary for PC gamers/builders, so much so that the cooler has been with us in one form or another for around a decade. Over time, Cooler Master has refined this unit to deliver increased performance, and that journey continues with their 2018 Concept Hyper 212 redesign.
An RGB fan has been added to the heatsink alongside an illuminated Cooler Master logo on the top of the cooler, though the most significant changes in this 2018 model come under the hood.
Cooler Master has updated the Hyper 212 to offer users an extra heatpipe, making the total heatpipe count five in their latest Hyper 212, with Cooler Master also extending their cooling fins to provide around 20-25% more surface area, while maintaining its 120mm fan size and having no impact on memory compatibility.
Our only problem with this redesign is that all of these changes will add additional cost to the unit, which goes against the Hyper 212’s legacy as an affordable CPU heatsink which was easy to mount and offered reasonable cooling performance. With the rising cost of new Hyper 212 revisions, we may soon see the 212 lose its “budget performance” advantages.
