Cooler Master MasterBox 600 PC Case Review

Conclusion & Video Review

Conclusion – The MasterBox 600 represents tremendous value

There’s a lot to like about Cooler Master’s new MasterBox 600 case. With an asking price of £99, we think it represents great value. Not many cases at this price point ship with this many ARGB fans, and fewer do so while also supporting Back-Connect motherboards.

Back-connect motherboards from MSI’s Project Zero or ASUS’ BTF range are fairly expensive right now. Even so, this feature is due to become a lot more mainstream over the next few years. The MasterBox 600 is ready for that eventuality, The case has plenty of space behind its motherboard tray for cables, even those with long connectors. Don’t expect this case’s side panel to “bulge” like cases of old.

With four included fans, this case delivers users plenty of airflow out of the box. Our only criticism is that this case’s front mounted 140mm fans are a little loud for our tastes. By default they spin at up to 1800 RPM, but users can tweak their fans speeds to make them a lot quieter. If you wear a headset while gaming, this noise will not be an issue, but we like to run quiet systems. Even so, setting up a fan profile is all you need to do to make these fans quiet.

Strong Value

With Cooler Master offering so much for so little, there was bound to be an area where we could find some cost-cutting measures. For the MasterBox 600 this can be seen with this case’s PCIe slot covers. These covers are fixed to the case, and one they are removed they cannot be re-attached. This means that users need to be careful to only remove the PCIe slot covers they need to remove. Otherwise, they will have a missing slot cover and an unwanted gap in the rear of this PC case.

While these slot covers were more firmly attached than we expected, they are fairly easy to remove. We’d just recommend using some pilers instead of your fingers. If you want you can buy some aftermarket PCIe covers at a relatively low cost. Cooler Master clearly wanted this case to cost under £100 and didn’t want to compromise in other areas. On the whole, I think that Cooler Master made the right choice here. After all, this case excels in all other areas.

The Cooler Master MasterBox 600 is a case that represents tremendous value. Honestly, there is very little to fault with this case. Certainly there are nit-picks, but there aren’t any deal-breaking issues. What we have here is a case with a strong price and a killer feature set, which is why we are giving this case the OC3D Value for Money Award.
