Corsair 5000 Series Cases Review

Conclusion

There’s a lot to love about the new cases from Corsair, and whilst their internals are identical, there is enough difference in the externals and feature set that you have a genuine choice.

Corsair has really gone back to the drawing board with the 5000 range and brought us cases which are extremely flexible, with room to fit two 360mm radiators in three positions – with only the front and side at the same time unavailable. We love the ability to mount the radiator with the fans facing outwards, particularly as so many people are moving towards vertically mounted GPUs. It adds a great harmony to the look of your build. Additionally, the room around the back for cable management is top-notch. You have a PSU cover to hide any crimes you can fit around the back, but plenty of space there for even the most haphazard builder to be able to have a front side that looks the part. There is enough room for drive mounting to suit all but the most SSD-rich user with room for four SSDs, or two drives if you’re still running 3.5″ HDDs.

Now enjoy the video and see it in action.

If you want a system based around lots of airflow, but also that is more affordable then there is loads to recommend the 5000D Airflow. You’re losing a little bit in the supplied fans and iCUE Lighting CORE controller, but on the flip side, you’re getting a system that is great for medium-cost systems and has plenty of expandability on the insides for your future upgrades. As you saw on the previous page this extra airflow brings lower temperatures, something else that could tip you towards the 5000D Airflow if you’re on a budget and have a GPU and CPU without top-notch cooling. It might make the extra difference.

The 5000X is a bit more of a premium proposition. Internally it’s identical to the 5000D, but you get some RGB fans and the Lighting CORE controller included for a little bit of extra investment. We also think that long-term, the glass top and front set you up better for adventures further on down the road. The price difference isn’t so significant that, unless you really want that high airflow action, we think the 5000X has enough extra features to offer to be the one to plump for. Either way, it’s a return to form for Corsair and they both win our OC3D Enthusiast Award.
