Up Close with the Corsair FRAME 4000D
While many will call this case the “new version of the Corsair 4000D,” the differences between it and its new FRAME series are easily visible once you get closer. Both cases are around the same size and have a similar external profile, but both use different mesh designs, top panel designs, and different I/O layouts. If you think this case is the same 4000D as before, you either need a closer look, or an eye test.
Taking the top panel off the FRAME 4000D, we can see a new fan mounting system. Using a movable bar, this case can support three 120mm fans or two 140mm fans at the top of this case.
The top and side panels of this case are easily removable, and can be fastened/unfastened using thumb screws.
The top panel of the FRAME 4000D has a nice curved profile, giving the case a more premium appearance, despite being made using bent sheet metal.
Front Panel
One of the biggest changes that the new FRAME 4000D has over its predecessor is its new front panel. It features a new front mesh design that is three-dimensional in form. This enables increased airflow by decreasing obstruction. Behind its grille is a finer mesh for dust filtering.
At the bottom-front of the FRAME 4000D is the case’s new I/O panel. This panel is removable and can be replaced. Sadly, Corsair has not released any new IO plates yet. Perhaps Corsair will replace plates with more Type-C ports, more Type-A ports, or even Thunderbolt ports.
Like the top of the FRAME 4000D, the front of the case uses the same adjustable fan mounting system. This time, the case can support three 120mm fans, two 140mm fans, or two 200mm fans. Does Corsair have 200mm fans in the works?
The Rear of the case
The FRAME 4000D’s PCIe brackets can be re-oriented to allow for the use of vertically mounted graphics cards. In its standard configuration, this case can support up to seven PCIe slots worth of accessories. However, this assumes that your PC’s motherboard also supports enough PCIe devices to need this many slots.
On this case’s base is a PSU mounting plate with two captured thumb screws. This makes PSU installation a breeze.
Note the included port for external Corsair LINK devices. This is a great inclusion for users of CORSAIR ICUE LINK accessories. Without this port, some users may need to drill a hole into the ear of their PC for cable management.
Behind the motherboard tray
On the right side panel of the FRAME 4000D we can see perforations that will be useful to anyone planning to use side-mounted case fans.
Once we get inside the case, we can see that the FRAME 4000D has two internal plates that can be changed/replaced. Once is a handy cable covering area, while the other is a mounting plate for up to three fans (three 120mm or two 140mm). We also have a mounting plate that covers the motherboard’s CPU cutout that can be used for SSD or accessory mounting. If you used ICUE LINK, this is where you could place your controllers.
At the other side of the case, we have a glass panel that covers most of the case’s side. At the bottom we have a perforated plate that can be blocked to prevent airflow, or be opened to enable airflow.
Behind this plate, Corsair has mounted plasticard to block airflow. This can be replaced with a coloured card to enable some neat visual effects. This is a nice, simple mod for beginners.
GPU Support
This case includes a GPU support, which is useful for those with long graphics cards. Note that our test GPU is barely longer than our ATX motherboard, so it isn’t long enough to use this support (not that it needs it).
Note that none of the cable routing holes in this case have grommets. Grommets would be a nice accessory option for those who want them. Without grommets, a lot of cables will be visible through this case’s side panel window.
Overall, the Corsair FRAME 4000D has a clean overall look. With a baseline cost of £79.99, this case looks a lot more premium than it is. Corsair did a great job maximising features while minimising costs.
Note that we have added two extra RS 120mm ARGB fans to this case for testing. At stock, this case shipped with three front-mounted fans.
