Corsair Obsidian 500D Review

Vertical mounted GPUs, HDD/SSD support and fan filters

When looking at the rear of the chassis, it is clear that the 500D supports vertically mounted GPUs, though please note that Corsair does not ship this 500D with a vertical GPU mount and the required PCIe extension cables. These add-ons are available as a standalone product, allowing Corsair to lower the cost of the enclosure. 

Vertically mounted GPUs look stunning inside this chassis, as the case’s tempered glass window gives users a clear view of the user’s graphics card. Users with GPUs that are over two PCIe slots thick will need to consider ventilation if their GPU sits too close to the 500D’s window, though this shouldn’t be a huge problem with most 2.5-slot graphics cards. 

  

The 500D supports two 3.5-inch drives and three 2.5-inch drives, all of which sit behind the case’s motherboard tray, offering support for more storage space than most modern gamers will require, especially if they make use of M.2 SSD drives. 

We can see that the Obsidian 500Dalso offers the same removable cable management routing cover as the 570X, allowing users of this chassis to quickly hide their system’s PSU cables, which is a key feature given this case’s use of both left and right tempered glass side panels. 

 

The 500D will come with fan filters fitted to every fan intake on the chassis, allowing the 500D to intake dust-free air from the front and top of the chassis, as well as though the case’s PSU section. All of these filters are easy to remove and clean, though the PSU filter may be difficult to access if the rear of your case is close to a wall.
