Fitting

Before we look at the method of fitting let’s first have a gander at the accessories and instructions provided.  Like the ETS-T40 the T60 comes with mounting brackets for all modern Intel and AMD chips (see tech Spec for details).  and also like the T40 a small syringe of TIM is included along with a rather clever little adapter device that enables you to tighten bolts with a screw driver.

Enermax have come up with another stress free fitting mechanism for the T60.  A bit different to that of the T40 but by no means stressful.  It’s a two stage affair involving attaching a two section bracket to the cooler (1bracket serves all the Intel chips, the other all the AMD chips) and then passing the threaded pins of the bracket through the Motherboard to the reverse side where they are mated with the back-plate and held in place with bolts.  OK, so maybe a bit more of a fiddle than the practically perfect T40 method, but for my part it was accomplished in 12 mins with no use of swearies and no bleeding fingers.  The only thing I would say was that in fitting I was never perfectly convinced that the contact plate was sitting square and flat on the chip.  It felt like it was rocking a bit, as if it was hung up on a MOSFET or something.  I think this was down to the whole cooler being slightly off balance as a result of the off-set of the upper body of the cooler.  Having convinced myself it wasn’t fouling on anything It was tightened down and sat nice and flat.  In reality there were no fouling issues at all, just a bit of an odd sensation when you offer the two parts up.
