NZXT Kraken X72 AIO Cooler Review

Conclusion

It’s been a pleasure to review the NZXT Kraken X72, it was a doddle to fit, and obvious from the start that build quality and attention to detail were high, as indeed they always are with NZXT.  The CAM software that is used to control every aspect of the hardware speeds and lighting configurations is a vast improvement on the earlier versions, but can at times still be a bit buggy and clunky.  Once you get the hang of it though you’re good to go.

When we got to torture testing, we were impressed with the noise levels of the X72 when the fans were cranked down a bit, and also the sheer performance when you’re running at the full 12V that we test at.  Granted they get louder, but still not ear bleedingly loud, all of which means you can crank it up for some gaming goodness, or leave it on a low speed and almost silent running for general everyday use.

The Cold head has full LED RGB control via the CAM software, which when combined with the parallel mirror “Infinity Effect” technology within the cold head makes for a very impressive light show.  For the money, we were a little disappointed that it didn’t come bundled with RGB fans, and although you can change the rings in the cowling for different colours, these need to be purchased separately.  OK, so they’re only a few quid, but it would’ve been great to see a few optional colours come as part of the bundled package.

And so to performance.  OK, so it didn’t make the top spot, but it wasn’t far off, and for that we feel it’s rightly earned a Performance award.
