It would be easy to dismiss Thermaltake’s Core P3 as a case that places style over substance — condemning the enclosure for its lack of dust filters and its inability to adhere to normal PC case standards. However, that would be skipping the entire point behind the Core P3.
Thermaltake’s Core P3 is a case that’s designed to show off. Do you think this case places style over substance? That’s the point! This case is designed to display the components within, not cover them with dust filters or steel side panels.
Building a PC within this case is as easy as you want it to be. Assuming you can assemble flat-packed furniture, assembling the Thermaltake Core P3 is a doddle. Yes, this case has a lot of modular/optional parts, but it’s easy to know what you’ll need based on what components you plan on using. Are you using a Closed-loop-liquid cooler? If that’s the case, you probably won’t need this case’s pump mount. Are you planning to use multiple graphics cards, then you may need to reconsider your GPU mounting configuration, etc, etc.
The Core P3 is designed to act as a blank canvas for its users to create highly custom PCs. The custom mounts on the rear of the chassis say it all. This a case that may demand a custom stand or wall-mount. Only a certain kind of user wants that. This is the case for a bling-focused LAN build, or the centrepiece of someone’s mancave, she shed or gaming room, not a PC for the office.
The problem with writing about this case is that all of the usual rules don’t apply here. This case is all about the looks, and if you don’t like that aspect of the case; this isn’t the case for you. Simples.
The Core P3 is a case that’s specifically designed to show off your component, not to provide optimal cooling, dust production or noise dampening. There go all of our usual case comparison points… Thermaltake’s Core P3 is a case that will be bought and sold for its looks alone, and perhaps its wall-mounting capabilities, but mostly is looks.
When it comes to awards, there is only one that’s suitable for the Thermaltake Core P3. It’s the OC3D Exceptional Aesthetics Award. Why? Isn’t it obvious? The beauty of this case is that it highlights the beauty of all your other PC components. Your braided PSU cables will be on display, your assortment of RGB components will all be in view and carefully selected motherboard, power supply and graphics card will all be visible at practically all angles.
Yes, the Core P3 is a little pricy at it’s current UK price of £169.99, but that’s nothing when compared the components that will likely be used to fill this enclosure. This case is for showpiece systems, and all of those RGB-enabled components don’t come cheap.
