ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore Preview

We’re so used to finding the section beneath the heatspreaders to be stuffed to the gunwales with M.2 slots that the Z790 Apex Encore looks almost bare. A side-effect of the DIMM.2 storage solution ASUS use.

We’re not yet privy to the exact specifications of the Maximus Apex Encore power stages. That said, we know what is available on similar models from both ASUS and others. We would be shocked if it was anything less than 20 stages of 100A. Again, we’re just guesstimating, but it certainly has a serious heatsink and you don’t put those on for fun.

We mentioned on page two about the memory cooler not sitting above the DIMM slots and blowing down, but rather blowing upwards. With most GPUs having a vent in this location it should assist getting air to the top half of your system. Whether you can put up with the aesthetics is down to you.

Lastly the rear IO section contains everything you would expect to find on a motherboard from the ASUS ROG stable. Tons of USB ports, fast WiFi, decently quick LAN and PS2 ports for those of you who refuse to give up on your ancient HIDs, or plan to overclock to the point that USB devices would cry Uncle.
