As always we start with the two 8pin CPU 12V power connectors. Like everything we’ve seen in the last 6 months we also wonder how all the 8pin PCIe connectors have become grey.
Normally motherboards at this price might have one or two fan headers. We’re pleased to see the TUF boasting a dedicated pump header too. Nice.
Front panel USB cannot be underestimated. Insanely useful. Thankfully the TUF has both a 5G Type-A and 20G Type-C front panel USB option on board.
Two SATA ports are fewer than many of the X870 motherboards we’ve seen. Considering they only have a 3×2 grid, we think the TUF logo has been made surprisingly well.
The bottom right corner has the usual front panel headers and twin USB 2.0 front panel connectors.
Lastly on the PCB edges the ASUS TUF Gaming X870-Plus WiFi has three more fan headers for system cooling, as well as further addressable RGB headers. It might not be in the ASUS flagship ROG range, but neither is it obviously missing anything.
Whilst the high end X870 offerings might have three figures, the TUF still has plenty of power. Beneath those tall VRM heatsinks beats 16+2+1 80A power stages. More than enough for any of the AMD Ryzen 9000 range.
Beneath the TUF branded cover the X870-Plus boasts 2 Gen5 M.2 slots and two Gen4 ones. Plenty of high speed storage if the two SATA ports aren’t sufficient for your needs.
Lastly around the back the TUF X870-Plus WiFi has plenty of connectivity options. You have USB 3 Type-A for regular devices, all the way up to two 40G Type-C connections for those huge bandwidth options. Naturally WiFi 7 and 2.5G LAN handle your networking needs. The inclusion of “WiFi” in the name gave that away.
