ASUS ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming WiFi D4 Review
Up Close
ASUS are going all in with the white look for the Strix Z790-A. The packaging is white the text is silver. Not just the model identifying text you might expect, but all the text on the back is silver on white too. An opticians nightmare.
They haven’t scrimped on the accessories either. Everything is that palest of colours, and the few bits that aren’t are silver or grey. It’s nice to see an effort towards harmony, especially as we know how particular people who prefer white tend to be.
The design reminds us very much of the Prime. Rarely has a motherboard needed a full cover bottom half quite as much, and also it’s odd how much silver ASUS have chosen to use on an ostensibly white motherboard.
Looking at the top half alone it’s much more how we would have expected it to be. Big chunky heatsinks, lots of room around the CPU socket, it’s all very pleasant.
The lower half does look more of a hodge podge. Different shades of silver and white exacerbate the seperate elements, despite their best efforts to keep the text and slashes all matching up. Bonus points for Pacman though. Waka waka waka.
The top left corner is where we begin as we always do. Both the 8+8 pin 12V CPU power connectors have the bracing on them for longevity and robustness.
No your eyes do not deceive you, there is just a single CPU fan header found on the northern edge of the Strix Z790-A. We’ll show you where the rest of the headers are on the next page.
