As you can’t overclock the Xeon we went down the route of trying to undervolt it as much as possible to keep the power draw and temperatures as low as we could. Such is the quality of the Intel design we managed to drop it from 1.25V down to a very low 1.05V. Impressive stuff.
Temperatures
With the undervolt in place the temperatures of the Xeon E3-1230 V5 are about as low as you’re ever likely to see from a 3.8GHz Hyperthreaded Quad Core CPU. Under the OCCT stress test we only saw 49°C. You could probably keep this processor cool by blowing on it now and again.
