MSI B760M Gaming Plus WiFi Review
Conclusion
Conclusion
We mentioned in our introduction how consistent Intel chipsets are these days. With the MSI B760M Gaming Plus WiFi we hope that our point has been clearly made. The old days, when buying anything but the most premium, flagship, range-topping motherboard meant you’re compromising are behind us.
Now, admittedly the MSI B760M Gaming Plus is lacking a couple of the features you’d expect from a Z790 motherboard. The PCI Express is limited to PCIe 4.0 rather than 5.0. For graphics this doesn’t make a massive difference. However, although you’d notice in storage the extra performance from Gen5, the odds of you being on a budget limited to these components but able to afford a huge Gen5 M.2 drive are slim. Additionally you only get a couple of M.2 slots. Those with massive Steam libraries perhaps need to take this into account.
However, that is the only area where the MSI B760M Gaming Plus WiFi is found wanting. We’ve only tested it with the Core i5-14400F. This is a processor we’ve tested before in pre-built systems and know to be a gaming monster. You don’t need to go all in on a Core i9 and the massive cooling requirements when the Core i5 lets you run with an affordable cooler and yet still can keep your GPU saturated with data. In fact, if you like rendering, it’s worth noting that CUDA rendering annihilates anything a CPU can do. The old adage of spending more money on your GPU than the CPU and Motherboard combo remains true.
With an affordable price point and a very handy amount of performance the MSI B760M Gaming Plus WiFi is a fantastic platform upon which to build a value-conscious system. It’s got everything you need, and nothing you don’t, with enough connectivity to keep most people happy. For these reasons it wins our OC3D Value For Money Award.
