MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk Review

MAG Z890 Tomahawk Overview
The Tomahawk packaging is certainly short of any obvious flair, beyond the battery warning. We spoke last time how the missile aesthetic was, perhaps, out of touch with the global situation. We like that they’ve binned it off.
We’re not insanely creative, but it looks like the curved sides of the heatsinks are just begging for a bit of 3D printing. It looks like things would easily slip in the grooves. Anyone out there got some time on their hands? For those of us who are mere mortals, the MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk is an old-school design. Not so old you end up with 7 different colours of plastics. But just in that ‘lack of RGB or design students wet-dream’ touches. It’s black and utilitarian. All business.
If you’ve grown tired of the VRM heatsink having a light display that would put Pink Floyd to shame, then the Tomahawk might be exactly what you’re after. Besides the lurid green branding it’s very understated.
Because we always love little easter eggs, the Aug 1986 on the second M.2 slot heatsink is the date and year that Microstar International was founded. It also happened to be the month Bon Jovi released Slippery When Wet, and the classic Stand By Me hit movie theatres. Dang time passes quickly, huh.
