MSI MEG X870E Godlike X-Edition Review
Conclusion
Conclusion
There is no denying the MSI MEG X870E Godlike X-Edition is at the peak of the MSI motherboard range. Heck it’s a match for anything on the market. At this price point we’d expect it to be. But it is built so well, and you have so much futureproofing, that it will provide pleasure deep into the future. If we were pretentious we’d call it an heirloom product. Like a Eames Lounge Chair or Prada handbag. It will last and last.
Naturally to discuss price would be the height of poor taste. As the old saying goes, if you have to ask the price you can’t afford it. Clearly you’re not here because you’re seeking performance figures or a bargain. Much like ASUS Maximus Extreme or Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme, the Godlike is the tippety top of the MSI range. What perhaps sets it apart is that MSI have a consistent design philosophy on their MEG products. With sufficient cash you get a harmonious rig. One that both looks the part and does all you could desire.
Feature set is ridiculous. You get the EZ Connect for simple cable management. If you want seven M.2 drives you can have them, with four Gen5s. Around the back are enough high bandwidth Type-C headers that even the most up-to-date setup won’t be left scrambling for a USB hub. Extra bits, the things that make this a premium choice, are numerous. We particularly adore the use of the X behind the MSI Dragon. It shows that this limited edition is more than just an extra bit of screen printing and a sticker on the CPU cover. Wherever you look you spot new places that MSI have applied a fastidious attention to detail to ensure that the lucky 1000 owners feel they’ve made a classy selection.
The Godlike X-edition is the ultimate expression of the motherboard designers art-form. With only 1000 available we’d suggest that if you have the funds you get on board immediately. For the rest of us, it will have to remain a glimpse of what is possible.
