MSI MPG Z890 Edge Ti Preview

Board Tour
We are enjoying the moving of 8pin 12V ATX connectors to above the DIMM slots. It saves our skin here, but also gives a perfect placement to your systems exhaust fan.
As we said at the end of the last page, experienced eyes will show the positioning of this within the MSI range. Just a single dedicated CPU fan header, no ARGB Mystic Light headers, no onboard power. Still more than enough for most users, and all built well. But when they have four figure motherboards such as the Godlike, spotting the one that’s under four hundred is a little easier.
We’ve spoken at length about the QoL benefits the EZConn brings and the MSI Edge Ti is no exception. As people who have to remove graphics cards a lot we’re also hugely keen on the EZLatch GPU removal button.
Such has been the rapid switch from SATA drives to M.2 ones, all of the current gen motherboards just have four SATA ports on them. If you happen to have a motley crew of drives, now might be the time to consolidate onto a giant M.2.
Bottom Edge
The first of three ARGB headers is to be found here, between the regular Chassis front panel connectors and the two case fan and USB 2.0 front panel headers. All neatly laid out.
If you have a lot of lighting in your rig then a further two ARGB headers and the regular RGB one will be enough to keep you, and the MSI Mystic Light ecosystem, happy.
Plenty of power stages has very much become the cornerstone of current motherboard thinking. It doesn’t seem that long ago that motherboards with 60A power stages were commonplace. Now we can’t think of one that goes that low. Certainly the MSI MPG Z890 Edge Ti isn’t one, with its 16+1+1+1 90A SPS power design. Knowing the Intel Ultra 200 processors are more frugal than their forebears this should ensure you can run even the Ultra 9 285K without worry.
Beneath that chunky heat sink there is a single 128Gbps Gen 5 M.2 slot and four Gen4 M.2 ones. More than enough for the average user to be able to take full advantage of any Black Friday storage sales.
After seeing the wizardry of the redesigned MSI Backplate – firstly on the Carbon but on other options since – it’s a bit disappointing to see the Edge Ti has the standard design. There are still a huge array of USB ports and Thunderbolt connections for you to make use of. Networkers will enjoy the 5G LAN ports that works alongside the WiFi 7 antenna you can see here.
