Introduction

The MSI range of motherboards have been diversified for a long time. We’ve had the MPOWER models, the high end ones replete in their yellow colour scheme and pushing performance to new heights. For the masses there are the Gaming editions with the red and black colour, MSI Dragon theming, and enough performance to satisfy anyone who makes pushing the most polygons their goal. Lastly there is the Titanium model, the best MSI has to offer.

Today we’re taking an overview of a motherboard which seems to combine all these elements into one of the longest named products we’ve ever had come through the OC3D office. The MicroStar International Z170A MPOWER Gaming Titanium. Phew. It’s a pity I’m not paid by the character or I’d type that out in full every time.

With a wealth of technology in place, and a unique silver look, let’s run through what the MSI Z170A MGT brings to the table.

Technical Specifications

The specifications of the MSI Titanium reads like a list of the best hardware you can fit onto an ATX PCB. You have the standard Z170 features of support for Skylake CPUs, DDR4, high bandwidth storage via M.2, U.2 and USB 3.1. Additionally though MSI have festooned the Titanium with a bevy of additional elements. Keeping your motherboard strong is vital as cards get heavier and we place a larger load upon them. The Titanium comes with a full metal backplate as well as metal surrounds on the DIMM slots, the PCI Express slots, and even the M.2 port. Sturdiness is definitely the watchword.

Having a motherboard that can endure the toughest scenarios is meaningless if it hasn’t got the capability to produce that stress, but MSI have ensured that the Gaming part of the MPOWER Gaming Titanium is well catered for. It has their latest version of the OC Genie, now called Game Boost, that provides eight different steps of automatic overclocking for your CPU. Simple. Effective. If you prefer to overclock manually then the OC Engine 2 and Military Class 5 components ensure that you can maximise your hardware, and the latest iteration of the Click BIOS 5 makes doing so simplicity itself.
