Starting, as is so often the case, with the famous red box with silver lettering so characteristic of the Republic of Gamers brand. It is the antithesis of the gaudy Strix design, although we like both of them equally. As for the card itself it is another step up from the Poseidon coolers of old. Whereas the earlier Poseidons had two slot width coolers, the new DirectCU revision on the Poseidon Platinum is now two and a half slots wide, which gives a much greater area for the air-cooling part to work its magic. The fans are capable of going all the way down to off, perfect for if you choose to use the G1/4 water-cooling connectors to plug the Poseidon into your loop. Another area that is quickly becoming a regular feature on ASUS graphics cards are the in-built connectors for system fans and AURA RGB lighting strips. A good way of helping you harmonise your system without forcing you to purchase solely ASUS components.

We don’t often mention build quality in our photographs page, but when the card is this heavy and the metal employed is this thick it is nearly impossible not to do so. As you can see from our 5th and 6th pictures the heatsink on the Poseidon is thick enough to double as armour plating on a tank. Lastly at the right hand edge there is a mirrored, illuminated ROG logo, for all your showing off needs.
