ASUS ROG Strix XG32V Curved 32″ Freesync Monitor Review

The box for our review sample might have been around the block a little, but there has never been a better canvas for the Strix design to show off. If you’ve ever doubted how big a 31.5″ monitor is, then the enormity of this package should clue you in. You get to see bits of the boss’s wall that don’t normally make it into our up close pages.
The stand is a rather odd tripod affair that, initially at least, seemed to be neither one thing nor the other. The red is too in your face with the slashes through it, the arms aren’t symmetrical. It’s a bit weird. However, once it’s in place it all makes perfect sense and only emphasises the curvy nature of the panel with its sharp edges. There is an old adage about wholes being greater than the sum of their parts. This is also where you’ll insert either the ROG logo disc or one of your own design for desk projection, which you can see at the foot of the page.
It’s extremely difficult to get across how mammoth this thing is, but we’ve done our best. You’ll also note that the concept of a curved display doesn’t meant that there is the merest hint of a curve if you stand at one particular angle holding a ruler. No, the ROG Strix XG32V is curved like a matinee idol. Whilst you might think this would only increase the reflectivity – as you might fear from the second photo of this group – in actuality as you can see from the first picture, the curves only help fuzz out the reflections into indistinctness. Perfect when you’re sat in front of it.
Around the back we have the on-panel controls as well as showing off the amount of connectivity options the XG32V boasts. As well as the DisplayPort you might expect on a high end panel, we have a mini DisplayPort and an HDMI. There is a 3.5mm jack for those of you who like to connect your speakers to your display and a USB 3.0 pass through. We’re not sure that having two USB ports around the back is handy for banging in a stick or similar, but it might help you keep your spaghetti under control if you utilise it for mice or head tracking.
It’s very difficult to get a clear shot of the ROG logo onto the desk, but we think this at least gives you an indication of what you can expect. Who doesn’t love showing off a bit.
