ASUS RTX 5070 TUF OC Review
Introduction and Technical Specifications
Introduction
Depending upon which side of this review you sit, depends upon how much you enjoy the Nvidia release schedule. If you’re just in the market for a new GPU then the “dribs and drabs” schedule seems bananas. Not long ago they’d all come out together. Should you happen to be us, and we appreciate how unlikely that is, then it’s a godsend. With Nvidia chucking out cards by the dozen, and AMD leaping onboard by releasing both B850 and the new RDNA 4 Radeon cards at the same time, we’ve been very busy. OC3D isn’t one of these fast food websites chucking out puddle-depth content from dozens of contributors. We’re a small team working to cover things in depth. It might be six weeks since we first reviewed a Blackwell card, but we haven’t stopped.
That does mean that today’s launch of the vanilla RTX 5070 cards, following the Ti cards a couple of weeks ago, coupled to the Radeon RX 9070 launch, hopefully finds us at the end of this cycle.
An awful lot has changed since we began this trip through umpteen new graphical powerhouses. Primarily Nvidia have completely failed to fill the shops with products. These shortages have forced prices skywards, even from reputable sellers, and this in turn has led to some dissent amongst the masses. After all, if people can’t buy your product, and when they can find one they’re being price-gouged, nobody is happy. It’s great that Nvidia have designed a GPU range that is so desirable, but it would help if the expected price and stock was remotely close to the actual street price. This isn’t the first time this has happened. It’s just not good enough.
Nice Diatribe, What About The TUF?
We’re sure you’re wondering what has that to do with the ASUS RTX 5070 TUF OC we’re reviewing today? When prices rise, the cards that begin life closest to the recommend selling price retain that good value relative to the alternatives. The ASUS TUF range has always blended excellent performance with affordability. Perhaps best of all there is still some design at play. Often the cheapest model in a range is the reference design with a sticker on it. ASUS don’t do things that way. With the TUF brand they have swathes of products which punch far above their weight, lacking only the expensive flash and flair of the ROG line up. It’s the perfect choice for those who value performance above looks.
With the RTX 5070 on hand, let’s put it through it’s paces.
