ASUS GTX1060 Strix Review

Introduction

The ASUS Strix range has come to dominate proceedings of late. What originally surprised us that ASUS felt the need to step away from their ROG range and introduce an entirely new model has proven to be a masterstroke, with both the motherboards and graphics cards being amongst the very best that the market has to offer.

We’ve just looked at the nVidia GTX 1060 Founders Edition, and next up on our test rig is the ASUS GTX 1060 Strix. With a full length PCB, the always excellent DirectCU III cooler, and an 8 Pin PCIe power input rather than the 6 Pin we saw on the nVidia, it is like a GTX 1060 on steroids.

All of that would be nice but not amazing if it wasn’t for a beefy factory overclock too. Whilst the Founders Edition required some manual fettling to make the most of it, the ASUS Strix comes ready to unleash its fury in a ‘fit and forget’ style.

Technical Specifications

The main parts of the GTX 1060 Strix are the same as the Founders Edition. In short, the GPU is a cut down Pascal offering with about half the architecture of the GTX 1080. Where the Strix scores over the nVidia option though is in the GPU Boost clock which is a substantial 1873MHz. That should give us a healthy frame rate increase throughout our testing.
