Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti Aorus Extreme Review

Since the introduction of the Aorus range Gigabyte have really stepped up their game and produced a raft of clean cut, modern packaging that looks like an exercise is tasteful restraint. The Aorus Extreme itself looks almost identical to its predecessor and it would take a particularly level of geekdom to notice the changes. Fortunately nobody has earned their geek wings quite like us, and so we instantly spot the obvious things like orange dust caps instead of black ones, and the slight change to the backplate.

It is on the reverse of the Aorus Extreme that we find the only difference between it and the original Aorus. The copper base that is designed to help keep the GPU cool using case airflow in addition to the Aorus cooler itself was simply a square on the first Aorus, but here on the Extreme model it has expanded to encompass the screw holes as well as the underside of the Pascal GPU.

One area in which the Gigabyte Aorus Extreme differs greatly from the majority of GTX 1080 Ti’s we’ve reviewed is the number of outputs available. Rather than the usual 3 DisplayPort, 1 HDMI, 1 DVI-D that is more commonly found, there are also two additional HDMI outputs including one at the ‘inside the case’ edge of the card so that you can run your VR headset out the front if you wish.
