MSI Optix MAG161V Portable Display Review
Up Close continued
The most likely use for the Optix MAG161V is as a second display on a laptop, and the size and design is perfect for this. It’s small, thin and lightweight. If you have a bag for your laptop the Optix will fit in easily, and is well under 2cm thick. Or, rather, thin.
By virtue of the Type-C input the MSI display is perfect for those of you with a current generation phone. Admittedly it’s not touchscreen so you’ll still need to use your device to control things, but it’s a very easy way to show off your Instagram or just browse the net without needing a magnifying glass.
You can extend the displays as we’ll look at below, but the Optix MAG161V also supports cloning, perfect if you are performing a presentation or just want to share a film with a travel partner without having to sit in each others laps to do so.
Using the Optix as a second display is perfect for those of you who do a lot of work on the go but are more used to a multi-display setup at home. The extra room is a godsend.
There are plenty of options built into the Optix MAG161V, and it’s very easy to configure things to your liking. Do note though that without an internal battery this is a procedure you’ll need to do every time you use it if you have a particularly complex set of demands. Fortunately in ‘out of the box’ trim it’s very good by default.
