Up Close

There is no doubt that for wow factor the PowerColor Red Devil sits firmly in the ‘cool, minimalist’ category. This isn’t a product that needs to show itself off to passing trade on hardware superstore shelves, but instead is for the discerning purchaser who knows what they are getting.

Lifting the flap reveals the RX 5700 XT Limited Edition in all its glory, whilst also giving you a look at how the Red Devil logo itself has been embossed into the main flap, rather than just printed on.

The cooler has three PWM fans to push the air through the heatsink, with the two outer fans having the Red Devil branding on them. The shroud itself has some creases and angles along with side ‘ejection’ ports to help keep a constant pressure and remove any dead spots.

We often mention how the backplate is the part of the card you look at the most given the design of motherboards and cases, and PowerColor have gone to a lot of effort in bringing a very attractive design to the party with the Red Devil. It combines enough design touches to not be plain without looking too fussy either. Very nice.

The heatsink is a seriously effective design with plenty of heat pipes and a high fin density covering the whole of the PCB allowing the card to dissipate its generated heat with the minimum of fuss.

At the business ends of the card we find the same formula as that of the reference design, 8+8 PCIe power inputs and a combination of HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.

If you get the limited edition version of the RX 5700 XT then you’ll find a soft RGB mouse pad included in the package. A nice bonus, particularly as the lighting works in conjunction with the software that controls the RGB of the card itself.
