XFX RX 7900 XTX Merc 310 Black Review

Whilst manufacturers tend to spread their wares far and wide to capture the largest possible audience, some companies prefer to focus all their talents on a smaller range of hardware. The benefit is clearly that a tighter product focus enables a more bespoke service. XFX are one such company, and anyone who read our reviews of their previous generation of Merc cards will understand where we are coming from. They combined gorgeous, effective, coolers with huge performance to be about as desirable as those GPUs could be.

We’ve already seen how much of a huge leap forwards in performance the newest RDNA 3 GPU from AMD has brought to the table, and having an XFX version available at launch has us salivating at what their Merc tuning can do with such a capable processor. Unsurprisingly the card of choice is based upon the more powerful Radeon card, the RX 7900 XTX, now here in XFX Merc 310 guise.

With a beefy cooler, some nice tweaking options, and the XFX attention to detail we all love, plus a price now confirmed to be $1099, we’re curious to discover if there is still some more juice to be squeezed from the RDNA 3 architecture, or if AMD have already extracted all they can. If any partner card will get a little more it’s XFX. Let’s find out.

Technical Specifications

The XFX Merc 310 slightly increases the size of the card when compared to the AMD cooler, 2.9 slots instead of 2.5. As neither enable you to slide another card in the slot beneath we don’t mind using the extra room to gain a little more cooling. As we all know, a cooler card will boost to higher clock speeds more consistently and more often, leading to higher frame rates. FPS is king.
