ASUS ROG Spatha X Wireless Mouse Review

Conclusion

How attractive you’ll find the ROG Spatha X will depend largely upon whether you have a use for the extra buttons on the side.

It isn’t the first mouse we’ve seen with an array of buttons in addition to the regular forward and back ones, or even F/B and a sniper button, but undoubtedly it is amongst the best designed. Getting your thumb to accurately find the button you need in a hurry is not an easy feat, but the ASUS designers have made each button significantly different from its fellows. This means that in the middle of an intense battle you can readily get the function you need, and you aren’t left accidentally chucking grenades at your feet or ordering your army back to camp. It is possibly the best solution to a multi-button thumb section we’ve yet seen.

Perhaps, however, you don’t really see the need for more than two or three side buttons. Maybe you don’t play MOBAs or the like. To those of you who fall in to this category then the simplicity of assigning buttons in the software means that you could just as easily set them up to control your recording software, or take screenshots in the heat of battle, or even assign commonly used commands to your application of choice. It’s perfect for streamers who haven’t yet invested in a Stream Deck as you could put OBS commands on to those extra buttons. Or Photoshop actions. The possibilities stretch far beyond merely controlling a character in a game, and this is where the Spatha X really shines as a product.

Of course having those features would be meaningless if it wasn’t comfortable or accurate in use. The sensor is a 19000 DPI optical offering that has all the responsiveness and accuracy one would expect to find on an ASUS ROG Product. There is no inertia nor unwanted angle-snapping. No random jumps or ‘gritty’ movement. Everything is smooth and fast, placing your cursor or crosshairs exactly where your thought dictates. The high hump on the back and low, wide buttons make it very comfortable in the hand for those marathon sessions, whilst the extra grippy sides with a thumb rest let you relax in quieter moments without losing your readiness for battle.

With a very easy method of recharging, an attractive design, heavily customisable configuration and all the bells and whistles one would expect to find on a flagship ROG product, the ASUS ROG Spatha X Wireless mouse is a pricy, but amazing, mouse and wins our OC3D Performance award.
