ASUS ROG Strix Flare Mechanical RGB Keyboard Review

ASUS ROG Strix Flare Mechanical RGB Keyboard Review

Introduction

The ASUS Strix range is rapidly expanding. Such is the massive popularity of this sub-brand that ASUS have created a monster. After all, brand loyalty counts for a lot and when the products are as good as the Strix ones usually are there is little reason not to remain loyal.

We’ve seen a Strix Mouse in the form of the Evolve, a Strix headset with the Strix 500 (there is a 7.1 model but we haven’t reviewed that), and now in addition to the many motherboards and GPUs available, there is a keyboard bearing the Strix name in the form of the Flare.

A full size mechanical keyboard with RGB Cherry MX switches and a very modern design the Flare has much to offer, particular for the creative amongst you. The ASUS ROG logo that you can see lit up in the image at the top of this page is easily removable and ASUS provide a blank, should you have access to an etching machine or just a Sharpie.

Technical Specifications

The Strix Flare ticks a lot of the boxes you would expect to find on any high end mechanical keyboard. Cherry MX switches – our review sample is equipped with the red variant although Brown models are also available – as well as dedicated media keys and the famous ASUS volume wheel. ASUS have also included the all-important wrist rest as well as a cool customisable lighting panel. There is full n-Key rollover to ensure you never miss a keystroke and a pass-through port. Lastly the full RGB lighting supports the ASUS AURA Sync to let you connect all your devices and easily have a harmonious colour scheme across your system.

As always with keyboards, seeing is more important than telling, so let’s take a closer look.
