We just love the simplicity of the be quiet! packaging. The orange makes it instantly recognisable. However, like the company themselves they’re not interested in pointless flash and flair. Make the product itself good. After all, we just look at the box when it’s on a shop shelf or whilst we’re desperate to find the time to experience the contents.
And here is the Light Mount TKL in all its glory. Complete with a wrist rest, vital if you want to not be in agony in later life. Take it from one who knows. The compact TKL dimensions are perfect for small desks or big desks with complicated setups. Externally it’s fairly familiar, although the circular media key looks out of place. More on that later.
What really makes the be quiet! Light Mount stand out is what’s going on under the hood. Beneath that aluminium top plate are three sound-dampening layers. In conjunction with the thick, high quality keycaps, it makes for a solid and quiet typing experience.
With so few extra keys on hand with the TKL form factor it’s nice to have three dedicated extra buttons. Easily configurable in the software we’ll see on the next page.
In the top left corner is the media wheel. Controlling volume and muting by default, it can of course be customised to your needs.
Here are the main event, the switches themselves. We’ll get to them lit up on the next page, but for now enjoy them naked. With the surface mount any crumbs are easily swept away rather than getting lodged in crevices. We know you’re far too clean to do something as abhorrent as eat lunch near your keyboard. We’re not, so we appreciate the design.
Mouse Pad XL
We also received this enormous XL mousepad. Our daily driver is pretty big at 900 x 400mm. The extra 10mm available here in depth is almost enough to make our monitor arm placement become a problem. Huge, lovely feeling to it and very subtle branding. We like it a lot.
We have to admit the small curve just where your right wrist would sit keeps catching our eye and making it look like the be quiet! mousepad XL isn’t sitting flush on the desk.
