Up Close

We have often mentioned how eye catching the use of yellow on the Corsair packaging is and the Strafe MK.2 is no exception. A bold RGB product shot is flanked by key feature highlights and all wrapped up in the famous yellow. We still wish they’d use yellow for their USB plugs too, but we can’t have everything.

The Strafe MK.2 comes with a reasonably soft wrist rest – as we keep harping on about, any wrist rest is better than nothing – as well as a set of heavily textured and curved extra key caps for FPS and MOBA uses, should that take your fancy.

The design of the Strafe MK.2 should be familiar to anyone with experience of Corsair keyboards. after all, when the design is this good and easily recognisable it makes no sense at all to change it. The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noted that, unlike the static chromed logo of the original Strafe, the Corsair logo supports full RGB.

On the underside we just have a couple of small feet that don’t really transform the angle of the Strafe but still help make it a touch more ergonomic if that is your preference.

At the top left we find the profile switcher, lighting brightness and Windows lock keys. It’s also worth taking a moment to mention the fantastic font Corsair use these days on their keycaps. Bold enough to let lots of light through, crisp enough to be clearly visible whether lit or not, and modern enough that the package looks fresh.

On the top right of the keyboard we find the all new dedicated media keys and that familiar volume wheel. Often extra keys such as these can feel squidgy and indistinct, particularly in the shadow of the crisp Cherry MX switches, but the ones here on the Strafe MK.2 feel nice and positive.

The switches in any mechanical keyboard are the main event, and in the case of the Strafe RGB MK.2 they are breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cherry MX switches are the industry standard for a reason and their silent offering, found here, are the pièce de résistance. Aping the typing feel of the MX Red, but significantly quieter. They’re a joy, and as we will see on a subsequent page they aren’t too shabby at the RGB lighting side of things either.

Finally the cable is a thick and somewhat inflexible braided cable (it bends nicely but will require some time to settle in after being tightly bundled in the box) with connectors for the keyboard itself and the single USB pass through port to be found on the rear of the Strafe MK.2.
